It happens! Thanks for fixing it!
What a race for Ciclismo Mundial Blog Team! P1, P2 and P4 in the end! Is this a team record here in Grand Tours?

Thanks for posting. I actually managed to run the scripts for Vuelta and not the Giro. Fixing it now. Quarantine Day 7 and things are getting out of hand ;)

Hey guys, Giro Fantasy finished, without GC Points in the end?

Francisco [K92-Team Neverland/GF Group] Sunday 25.Oct 18:34, 2020
Very well deserved, Sunweb still thinking about the shity strategy in Stelvio, :))
First Giro without an Italian in Top5!
Three young guys in Top4, does anyone can imagine the battles we’ll watch the next years?! In a quick thought we can easily think about 10 names... some stronger than others ofc but all great stuff...
Team Ineos/Sky with 7 stage wins and overall!! Not even in the greatest years at Le Tour...
João Almeida the most regular I think (even with Stelvio...). 11 times in Top10, worst result 28th...
4th place at the end in his first GT and being selected when his goal was La Vuelta!

Aragonite [TORA TORA TORA] Sunday 25.Oct 00:13, 2020
If Tao ever learned to start a GT, how he finishes them, he could be pretty awesome.

two rider with same time on the final stage of a Gt is unheard of. Logic says it should be Tao in the end, but who dares to call it after this year Tour? I just hope is close till the end honestly that would be awesome

As I said the logistics of this fianl week of the Giro was bad and it's crap to have a 260km flat stage at the end of a GT. This was made only to avoid a long transfer and have a stage finish at Sestriere who paid money for it.

But this was known a year ago: shame on the rider to make such a protest right before the stage start, very unprofessional. Just race this boring stage and be done with it, I refuse to think that a couple more hours in slight rain and 10° are such a problem for pro riders

MiguelSimoes 35 [Pro Cycling Team 35] Friday 23.Oct 19:18, 2020
Exactly!
But 250km today, after Stelvio yesterday, would make difference tomorrow and not all of them would be well in the Sestriere climb!

Also honestly have no idea what the final TT values will be, to me it would be much more who has more energy left and stronger mind rather than who is more TT specialist. All sort of carzy things happened on the fianl TT of GT

Honestly I think Sunweb played it right. No point in waiting him on Stelvio and at the beginning of the final climb he was very much losing time.
Maybe they also know his form is declining and put that into the equation.

I have it in my manager but I don't like Kelderman very much as a rider, too conservative when he was the strongest cimber in the bunch on finish that suited him very well and not enough cool headed to just think to race as fast as possible on he final climb today.
I hope that one between Tao and Hindley wins this, it would be much deserved to me. Anyway craziest Giro I ever saw

Aragonite [TORA TORA TORA] Thursday 22.Oct 19:48, 2020
Early season, high altitude training for getting dressed, next year for Sunweb. :)

Aragonite [TORA TORA TORA] Thursday 22.Oct 17:39, 2020

2 minutes 41 seconds between Kelderman and Hindley before today. The last time trial is another minute in his favour, so that's 3 min 40 sec. Did we really think he would lose that much time today?
Hindley on equal time with Geoghegan Hart, but should be about 40 seconds between them in the TT, so it's unlikely Hindley can beat him also.

Andy [Luxembourg Finest] Thursday 22.Oct 17:12, 2020
16th Winter Fantasy Overall
Let's say he had waited and Kelderman had collapsed on final climb like it looked in the start of it. Would it then be a good tactic to wait?

Erythropoietin [Erythropoietin] Thursday 22.Oct 17:12, 2020
1st Winter Fantasy Overall
I see a lot of support for this for some reason, but wtf. Rather have a 45 second lead than 15.
It's about winning, not 3rd places. And that's what Hindley is looking at now. And even if Kelderman cracks on stage 20, Geoghegan Hart still smashes Hindley in the time trial.

Aragonite [TORA TORA TORA] Thursday 22.Oct 17:08, 2020

Strange Giro with only one big mountain stage. I was hoping for Finestre on Saturday, so disappointing new stage with just gentle climbs up to Sestriere.

yep stage 20 goes from 5500m to 4000m in climbing meters. If Almeida doesn't crack today he's looking good for the win. Safe to say this is the weirdest Giro I've ever seen.

sker [Team Paracarri] Wednesday 21.Oct 18:32, 2020
18th Winter Fantasy Overall
yes flawed stage design today. Also stage 20 is now officially hugely altered into a much more easy one, without going into France and with tree times on the easy Sestriere climb.
So tomorrow with Stelvio is really the last chance for significant action in the mountanins, after that is unlikely to see riders crack

The Portuguese dream is still alive... just 🙂

Francisco [K92-Team Neverland/GF Group] Saturday 17.Oct 19:40, 2020
Agree, the 3rd week it’s the unknow...
The altitude too and specially, i’m affraid, the long sequence of multiple big climbs!
I suspect it will be too much but I’m ok with what can happen...🙂
His Giro is already remarkable! Agostinho, the Boss, Azevedo also a good GT rider and now Almeida. Triple A...
Pogacar did 3rd last year in Spain.

P.S. I forgot to mention Brandon McNulton before. He’s riding superbly!!

MiguelSimoes 35 [Pro Cycling Team 35] Saturday 17.Oct 17:59, 2020
There are a lot of climbs from now on, but he likes most the more constant climbs, 6,7,8 %, where he can ride his pace, and he has a great ability, he can ride from the back to the front, and that makes difference!
If he can attack in the explosive climbs from these last days, I believe he can follow the best riders in the high mountains. The problem that he never faced can be the 2000+ of altitude, and a 3rd week. But he's great, our best young talent since Rui Costa, and I believe a Grand Tour Contender of this new generation!

MiguelSimoes 35 [Pro Cycling Team 35] Saturday 17.Oct 17:53, 2020
It has been an hell of a ride Francisco! What a great Giro!
Tomorrow it will be his 12th day in pink, an amazing record! Like you said, he has to ride day by day, with no pressure.
I cant remember a rookie winning a Grand Tour! Merckx was 9th in his first one, and it was in the Giro too!

Francisco [K92-Team Neverland/GF Group] Saturday 17.Oct 17:38, 2020
I’m expecting so...
What he is been doing it’s fantastic. There are several reasons for that but his work is superb. As well as DQS!!!
Naturally he hasn’t the experience nor the pace to follow the best in high mountains but they don’t seem that stronger in these days with a few exceptions in Wilco, Domenico or Rafal... ofc Nibali is someone that can win the Giro in one single stage...
There is also the chance of some cancellations...
Most important as his mother said: he’s riding with absolute no pressure facing each day the same way.
For me, already a winner. A piccolo winner? A grandíssimo winner? Don’t know yet but surely a unexpected winner...

now comes the hard part for Almeida, 7 stages to go with plenty of tough climbs to potentially crack on

My mistake... 🙂
Too much emotional this journey...😀
He’s already a winner and i hope he don’t feel any kind of pressure! Just ride and enjoy João...
Miguel, no chance i believe. A rookie winning a GT?
Anyone did it? The Cannibal?!!

P.S. It would be great a top10. Not to mention top5... 🚴‍♀️

MiguelSimoes 35 [Pro Cycling Team 35] Saturday 17.Oct 03:55, 2020
10 days in Pink Francisco, 11 with the ITT tomorrow, he started wearing it after stage 3.
No matter what happens, he will be the longest pink jersey wearer in this edition!

PS: I wish he can wear it not only 12, but until Milan :D

Aragonite [TORA TORA TORA] Friday 16.Oct 17:04, 2020
Still only six teams with a stage win.

Francisco [K92-Team Neverland/GF Group] Friday 16.Oct 16:47, 2020
The longest race João had done before this one was Il Piccolo Giro with 11 days.
Until now he has done already 13 days among the big ones and... 12 of those wearing pink...
No words to describe this... :)
Probably just one more day with that jersey but quite an achievement!!! So very proud!!!

In Portugal everybody talks about it BUT in a country where the football dries everything around i expect he will be forgeted by the majority soon as he loses the pink... :|

P.S. An amazing piece of work by DQS, btw...

Erythropoietin, those are the graphs I've used, and that is why I called it "hypocrisy" :). If there is no problem with covid-19 because death statistics go down, and we are totally OK with almost 15 000 daily infections, then why bother at all, wear masks, send two entire teams home from Giro, etc? Riders feel good, so.. lets ride, test once a week (on a rest day) and pretend nothing happened, until there is no more teams in the race. (I hope you got the irony.)

P.S. Apparently there is less deaths because:
A. A lot of the most vulnerable have died already, (like in Sweden)
B. The virus mutated to be less harmful.

I think that the corona situation will at least have a strong impact on next season. When a vaccine is available next year, it will probably take until the middle / end of 2021 until a large part of the population is immune (if the virus does not mutate). I hope that a "normal situation" can be expected again in spring 2022 (after the flu season), but everything has become more and more unpredictable.

P.S. I hope this stage win give him motivation for 2021. We all need him back to the cobbles with confidence and ready to put the boys in order... :)))

In my opinion the biggest win for Sagan was Paris-Rubaix 2018 :)

Marek_c [Passionforbiking] Wednesday 14.Oct 09:32, 2020
Spain is one of the worst countries in Europe with between 7 000 and 14 000 new Covid cases each day. Italy is right behind with up to 5 000 new cases per day. This is like 50% worse than in March when entire Europe was in total lock-down, and all sports event including all three GT was postponed or cancelled. We are now witnessing one of the biggest hypocrisy in cycling: Just because they invested money, and because covid-19 apparently become less symptomatic, they push to arrange those events at any cost. Riders rub each other in the peloton for 5 hours, then stay on stage with 3m distance and masks on. Organizers try to crop and remove pictures like this: https://img.particlenews.com/img/id/1WZOrS_0WsA7ldi00?type=webp_1024x576 and this: https://israelcyclingacademy.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/WhatsApp-Image-2020-10-13-at-17.11.36-1-600x399.jpeg

No need to panic for the Giro yet. Overall situation in Italy is worsening but better than northern Europe. A huge problem would be the cold in northern Italy though, there is already snow in the mountains right now.
Still the majority of the teams are not even touched and I hope the ones with a single positivity closely monitored.

Based on the situation, the Giro will most likely end far before Milano, and Vuelta will be canceled. If there was like 10 riders covid-positive in the bunch on Sunday, there will be like 50 tomorrow. The question is how far they will go.. maybe Sagan will now win the Giro, being the last healthy rider. All he need to do is to keep the social distance by going in break on flat stages and dropping to a grupetto in the mountains :))

Aragonite [TORA TORA TORA] Wednesday 7.Oct 18:54, 2020
You could of had 500/1, Ganna to win stage5.

zcoolman [Cranksmashers] Wednesday 7.Oct 18:05, 2020
Bminchow I’m not that far away from you here in Knoxville Tennesee. Just moved here last summer from Michigan and still getting used to the mountains. My flattest ride nets me 3000ft of climbing in about 40 miles. Most of my other rides are between 5-8kft.

bminchow [Man Chow] Wednesday 7.Oct 17:55, 2020
I'm in Asheville, where it is Mountains, not hills. And I just moved from Nebraska, where there are no hills. So I'm having a hard time riding right now.

Koronin [Koronin] Wednesday 7.Oct 04:50, 2020
Aragonite, that's interesting. Thanks for the brief history and geography lesson. Durham is just to the west of Raleigh and is a similar size. Durham is a strange city in that you go from good neighborhoods to bad neighborhoods just by crossing a street.
The way the hills are in that part of the state could make for a really fun 1 day race. Steeper hills than what was in the Richmond Worlds race. You could have something between Amstel and Fleche Wallone for what the hills there would be like. I've spent the last 10 years at the coast with a bridge to the beaches being the closest thing to a hill, so I'll have to get used to riding in the hills once we get moved there.

Aragonite [TORA TORA TORA] Wednesday 7.Oct 00:37, 2020
Durham. Didn't realise there was a city in the USA, named after my hometown in the NE of England, Durham City. Which incidentally, is less than ten miles from the town of Washington, where your first president George Washington's forefathers hailed from and your capital city was named after. Hear endeth the history lesson. :)

Koronin [Koronin] Tuesday 6.Oct 23:46, 2020
bminchow, welcome neighbor! I'm currently living at the coast, however once we get a few things fixed with the house I'm moving inland to where my husband is working now. Although I enjoy the beach, I'll be happier once we get fully moved to the Raleigh/Durham area. I'm a big city girl. No idea which part of the state you're in, but enjoy it.

bminchow [Man Chow] Tuesday 6.Oct 22:27, 2020

Somehow Movistar of all teams currently has 2 riders in the top 20 of GC. They said they weren't racing for GC, just stage hunting with no leaders and no helpers. On the other hand it appears that Samitier and Pedrero work well together and could be a fun duo to watch going forward.

Agree there. Remember ASO/Unipublic blocked Nibali from doing any races when he was DQ'd, but a DNF from crash/illness is a whole different story.

johnjackjoe [JohnJackJoe Racing] Monday 5.Oct 12:40, 2020

Partykjeppen [Il Piccolo Gregari] Saturday 3.Oct 11:34, 2020
With the GC-compartment quite light on top-tier contenders, this parcours should serve up some fun breakaway wins in addtion to someone unexpected piering the top 5-7. Hope Astana bring their A-game and are ready to try to launch Vlasov and Superman to put pressure on Ineos/Mitchelton/Jumbo.

Looking tforward to following new talent and stage hunters like Guerreiro, Vendrame, Hänninen, Paret-Peintre, Fabbro, Vanhoucke, Oldani and so on to see who has their big breakthrough this GT.

It smacks of some Marketing department-honcho finally getting their way and putting an acid-infused idea into pratice (I KNOW HOW WE CAN GET LOTS OF ATTENTION, BROS). I would love to see both, Jumbo and Ineos, going all in to Le Tour in a memorable "battle"...
Kruijswik could be the dutch name to Il Giro and be a golden domestique in France alongside De Plus, Kuss, Gesink, Van Aert and Martin. The only remaining question would be, as Kjeppen said, Tom/Primoz co-habitation.. :)

Andy [Luxembourg Finest] Sunday 27.Oct 00:13, 2019

The reigning champion is not a big enough rider?

Partykjeppen [Il Piccolo Gregari] Saturday 26.Oct 23:37, 2019
I'd favor Big Tom slightly more for the Giro, but at the same time I'd watch what Ineos chose to do. If Bernal rides the Giro, it'll perhaps be Jumbo's biggest chance to win the Tour for a while. Save both Big Tom and Roglic for the Tour, if they have the personalities which would allow them to ride as co-leaders and break Ineos that way.

As always I would've like 1-2 more medium mountain stages, but overall I think this is a great parcours. So far Nibali is only proper big gun who's stated Giro is his main aim for 2020?

Koronin [Koronin] Saturday 26.Oct 22:21, 2019
It'll be interesting to see what Jumbo does between the Giro and Tour next year. Roglic has said he wants a shot at the Tour next year, so maybe Dumoulin the Giro and Roglic the Tour? However, the course of the Giro looks a bit better for both of them than the Tour does.

Movistar likely sends a team for stage hunting to the Giro.

Andy [Luxembourg Finest] Friday 25.Oct 15:20, 2019

Olympic year so I think that will influence their priorities with both Dumoulin and Roglic candidates to both RR and TT there. And with that little TT in Le Tour I think it is more likely for them to go for Giro - Vuelta.
